    Applying for a Visa

    1. Where can I lodge my visa applications?
      All applications for a UK visa should be lodged with our office in Manila. For details on lodging an application please refer to the How do I apply page

    2. Which visa application can I submit with UKVACS?
      You can submit application forms for all visa categories at the UKVACS office in Manila: Unit 2501/2502,Phil Axa Life, 1286 Sen Gil Puyat Avenue, Corner of Tindalo Street, Makati City.

    3. How do I get the visa application form and other additional visa information sheet & booklets?
      You can collect visa application form and other additional visa information sheet and booklets free of cost from our office in Manila. You can download visa application form and check list free of cost from the UK Border Agency Website.

    4. How do I lodge my visa application?
      Applications can be lodged in person; in the UKVACS office mentioned under the link Contact Us .The offices are open for collections from Monday to Friday between 0800 to 1500hrs. Applicants without appointments may only attend the office on Mon to Fri 08:00 a.m. to 09:00 a.m. We recommend all applicants for a UK visa make an online appointment to attend the office and lodge their visa application. To book an appointment, visa applicants are requested to select Appointment Scheduling link.

      For the return of your passport and documents - you may avail of our courier service which is very convenient and optional or you may choose to receive the same across our counters, once returned by the British Embassy.

    5. What do I need to complete my application?
      This will depend on which visa category you are applying for entry under. In all cases you will need the following.

      • A visa application form, which you have filled in correctly.
      • Your passport or travel document
      • A recent passport-sized (45mm x 35mm), colour photograph of yourself. This should be:
        • Taken against a light coloured background
        • Clear and of good quality, and not framed or backed
        • Printed on normal photographic paper, and
        • Full face and without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless you wear this for
          cultural or religious reasons

    6. What are the documents and supporting documents required?
      The documents and supporting documents required will vary depending on the type of application you are making. For further information please refer to the checklists at the back of your Visa Application Forms, or on the Required documents page

    7. How do I find out about the progress of my case?
      You can track the status of your application from this website. Please enter your receipt number and passport number to know the status of your documents.

    8. What length of visit visa can I apply for if am visiting the UK for the first time?
      It is recommended that applicants who are traveling to the UK for the first time start off by applying for a 6 month visa. However, if first-time travelers wish to apply for a 1, 2, 5, or 10 year visa, they may do so knowing that that the visa fee is NON-REFUNDABLE should the British Embassy decide, upon its' discretion, to issue only a 6 month visa.

    9. If I have to withdraw my application, will my visa fee be refunded by the British Embassy?
      There will be no refund of fees whatsoever.

    10. How long does it take?
      For non-settlement visa applications the visa section targets to process applications in 30 working days. This process results in one of 3 outcomes: issuance of visa, refusal of visa, or interview. If you require an interview, the embassy aims to be able to provide an appointment within 15 working days.

      For settlement visa applications the visa section of the embassy targets to process applications in 3 months. Again there will be one of three outcomes: issuance of visa, refusal of visa, or interview. If you require an interview the embassy aims to provide a date within this 3 month period.

    11. Do I need a visa for the UK?
      Certain nationalities, known as visa nationals, need to obtain a visa before traveling to the UK. Even if you are not a visa national, you may need an entry clearance, depending on the reason for coming to the UK. Use the Do I Need a Visa? Questionnaire in the British Embassy website to find out if you need a visa.

      You will also need a visa if you:

      - are stateless
      - hold an non-national travel document
      - hold a passport issued by an authority that is not recognized in the UK

    12. Can my friend or family member in the UK apply for my visa for me?
      No, visas for the UK can be issued only at UK visa offices overseas. If your friend/family member needs a visa, they must get it before they travel to the UK. See Information for Sponsors for more information.

    13. Can somebody else apply for a visa for me overseas?
      This will not be possible from the 31st of May, 2007, as the British Embassy will introduce biometric scanning- where in all applicants will have to visit the Application Centre at the time of submission.

    14. What if I do not understand English?
      At many visa offices, application forms are also available in the main language(s) of that country. There will always be staff available at the office able to speak that language(s).
